Problems

There is a lack of basic resources for low income individuals and families in poverty to feed themselves or their family on a daily basis. Many individuals sit or stand with a sign requesting money for food, for housing, or for basic survival. The act of holding a sign can degrade the self-esteem of individuals and it is not a welcome sight for some members of the community.

Our mission is to be able to feed each and every person in Ithaca while maintaining their integrity, strengthening the community, and controling panhandling.

Pro Bonobos is a program designed to help raise awareness about food insecurity in the Ithaca area and strengthen the community.

PROVIDE FOOD

Pro Bonobos' donations are collected and distributed to participating food establishments to cover the cost of a meal or drink for an individual in need.

CONTROL PANHANDLING

“Care Cards” can be distributed to educate community members about the partnered food establishments they can go to to get a free drink or a meal.

Feed spare change into any of the repurposed parking meters in Downtown Ithaca for the Pro Bonobos program.

I didn't eat in 3 days. I'm homeless and had no money, but when I saw the logo of Pro Bonobos, I knew there was hope. So I went to Casablanca, my favorite pizza store, and they gave me pizza for free. I was so grateful that the waitress treat me just like the other customers. They never looked down upon me because I am poor. I also found several other restaurants, where I can go when I am really hungry and with no money. Thank you so much for feeding me, Pro Bonobos!

We participated the Pro Bonobos program in November, 2015. Since then, we have feed over 2,000 homeless people with fresh pizza, which only cost $1 per each piece of the pizza. We want to help the needy one slice at a time. We earn more customers because people appreciate our devotion to the community.

I first got to know Pro Bonobos when the waitress of Casablanca told me that I could purchase an additional slice to help feed a person in need. I was glad to find the great idea so I said YES! Later on, I always donated my change to the Pro Bonobos authorized restaurants. I hope more and more people will get to know this program and give their best to the needy individuals.
